TACOMA, Wash. - Hannah Jeffries gritted out a three-set victory at No. 1 singles but it wasn't enough as the Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis squad fell 8-1 to Northwest Conference rival Lewis & Clark College on Sunday at the Sprinker Recreation Center.
Jeffries took down the Pioneers' (3-3, 2-1) Madelyn Landerfelt in No. 1 singles, emerging with the, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory.
Kristi Floyd,
Kylie Rademacher, and
Lauren Kearney all pushed their opponents to three sets but unfortunately came up just short. Floyd fell, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3 while Rademacher was bested, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4. Kearney succumbed, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) to Caroline Hennes at No. 5 while
Bayley Gochanour and
Michelle Batin both had competitive matches at the No. 2 and No. 6  positions.Â
In doubles, Kearney and Rademacher fell 8-6 at No. 3 while Batin and Floyd ended on the wrong end of an 8-4 scoreline at No. 2.
"The Lutes came to play today!," said Head Coach
Cheri Campbell. "We competed on every court with four going to third sets. Hannah came up with a huge win at No. 1 singles over a tough Lewis & Clark team."
The Lutes hit the road next weekend, facing Linfield College on Saturday in McMinnville, Oregon.
