Poets Down Lutes in Spring Break Finale

Box Score WHITTIER, Calif. - Michelle Batin won her singles match but it wasn't enough to propel the Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis squad to victory on Tuesday night, suffering an 8-1 setback to host Whittier College in the Lutes' final dual match of spring break.

Batin needed three sets to emerge victorious at No. 6 singles, securing the, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4), decision over the Poets' (4-6) Kiara Embrey. Lauren Kearney hung tough at No. 5 before stumbling, 7-5, 6-0, while Kristi Floyd fell, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 3.

In doubles, Lauren Kearney and Kylie Rademacher fell by the slimmest of margins, ending on the wrong end of a 8-7 score at No. 3.

"We experienced a tough Whittier team today but the Lutes battled the entire match," said Head Coach Cheri Campbell. "Michelle came away with a win at No. 6 and Emma Lund won her exhibition match. We have one more day of training in the California sun before heading home."

The Lutes (2-9) return to the courts on April 5, hosting crosstown rival University of Puget Sound.
