Women's Tennis Off to Spokane for Season Finale

TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team will play their final regular season match of the season on Friday, trekking across the state to face Northwest Conference rival Whitworth University.

Last weekend, the Lutes (2-13, 0-7 NWC) hosted Whitman College at Sprinker Rec Center, falling 8-1 to the Blues. Michelle Batin scored the lone win for the Lutes, prevailing 7-5, 2-6, 10-8 at the No. 5 position for her team leading sixth singles victory of the spring.

As the team shifts their focus to Friday's matchup against Whitworth, we talked with sophomore Taylor Stokes about what the team is doing to prepare for their final regular season matchup of the season.

"In preparation for the match this weekend, the team has been continuously focusing on improving our doubles strategy by moving with our partner and moving our feet when we're at the net", said Stokes, "Also, since this is our last week of practices, we're just enjoying being on the court for the last times with our teammates and seniors."

Stokes is from Auburn, Washington. She is studying pre-med and minoring in business with the hopes of becoming an anesthesiologist. As the tennis regular season wraps up, Stokes reflected on some highlights from the year.

"A specific highlight from this year's tennis team was when we traveled to California over spring break. Over the trip we had three tennis matches, three beach training workouts, practiced many times in the sun, went to Disneyland, and had team bonding with not only the women's team but with the men's team as well. My favorite part was because of these experiences we had in California we grew closer as a team."

Stokes and the Lutes hit the court on Friday at 10 a.m. in Spokane.
