TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis squad got its first taste of competition on Monday evening, suffering a 9-0 setback at the hands of intracity nemesis University of Puget Sound.
"We faced a strong UPS team but showed some great promise," said Head Coach
Cheri Campbell. "First-year
Sydney Cameron showed her potential playing in the No. 2 spot and
Kylie Rademacher used her athletic ability to compete against a seasoned opponent at No. 3."
Hannah Jeffries and her new doubles partner
Sydney Cameron fell 8-1 at No. 1 in their first intercollegiate match together while
Lauren Kearney and
Kylie Rademacher fell 8-4 at No. 2.
In singles, Jeffries was undone 8-1 by the Loggers' (1-0) Lisa Owen at No. 1 while Cameron and Rademacher fell by identical 8-3 scorelines at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
Taylor Stokes and
Madeline DelCastillo each picked up exhibition wins in singles play, prevailing 8-6 and 8-1, respectively.
"The two best outings came from Taylor winning at the No. 7 spot and Madeline winning handily at the No. 8 position. We have a couple days to make some adjustments before our ITA tournament this weekend."
The Lutes (0-1) head across the state to Walla Walla on Friday for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional hosted by Whitman College.
