WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis team closed out its fall season with a strong showing over the weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional hosted by Whitman College.
Â
"I'm excited by what I saw this weekend with players making progress not only from our fall start but also from last spring," said Head Coach
Cheri Campbell. "Notable wins from doubles team of Kylie and Lauren against Pacific in the main draw and qualifying singles win from Alina and Taylor. Sydney had a main draw singles win for what looks like a promising career at PLU."
Â
Kylie Rademacher and
Lauren Kearney opened the event with an 8-3 doubles win over Pacific University's Megan Meatte and Kailei Eustis before stumbling 8-0 to Linfield College's Maggie Fiocchi and Sarah Sweet in the second round.Â
Â
In singles,
Alina Nussbaum prevailed, 6-0, 7-5, in Friday's qualifying round over Pacific's Taylor Smallwood while
Taylor Stokes advanced from the qualifying rounds with a, 6-4, 6-4, win over Pacific's Gillian Mead. First-year
Sydney Cameron rallied to the, 2-6, 6-3, 10-3, win over Whitworth University's Jill Hughes in the main draw before falling, 6-0, 6-0, to Linfield's Michelle Uyeda who came into event as the top-seeded player.
The ITA Northwest Regional had the consolation draws scrapped after inclement weather forced the tournament to be conducted on just four indoor courts as play continued into the wee hours of Saturday night.Â
Â
"The Lutes competed throughout the event and I'm disappointed there wasn't a consolation draw to allow for more match play but overall I'm very proud of how the Lutes competed!"
Â
The Lutes mothball the rackets for the next four months and open the spring season on Feb. 8 against crosstown rival University of Puget Sound.Â
