Lute Salute: Emma Lund

TACOMA, Wash. - Throughout the rest of the semester, GoLutes.com will profile the Pacific Lutheran University senior student-athletes involved in spring sports that had their seasons cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today's installment features PLU women's tennis student-athlete Emma Lund.

"Being an athlete teaches you a lot of things that will carry on with you forever."

For Emma Lund, the women's tennis team gave her a community, and her experience as a student-athlete gave her confidence which she will carry forward after graduation. With amazing coaches to support her, Lund believes she has grown as an athlete and as an individual.

"They always knew what to say to help me through a rough patch and their support on and off the court will stay with me forever," Lund said.

Lund is also grateful for the relationships she's made with her teammates in the past three years, and will always remember their laughter. Amidst the many matches, Lund remembers last year's team trip to California during spring break. Both the men's and women's tennis teams went to Disneyland, and created incredible memories.

Along with her involvement in athletics, Lund was an active member of College Young Life. Some of her favorite PLU memories came from doing fun activities through the organization, and for the past two years Lund has worked as the College Young Life social media director.

On the court, Lund was a doubles specialist, playing at the No. 3 position the last three seasons. The Chehalis, Washington native was having her best season yet this spring, earning doubles wins with her partner Taylor Stokes against the University of Puget Sound and Willamette University before the season was shutdown.

"Emma played for three years, making huge strides in her tennis skills and becoming a doubles specialist. She is one of the most dependable players that can be counted on to show up every day, never makes excuses, and brings a sense of camaraderie to every practice and match," said Head Coach Cheri Campbell.

Lund will be graduating with a degree in Elementary Education with a Special Education Endorsement, and hopes to become a member of a special education team or an elementary school teacher.

"Being a teammate and working with others will prepare me to work with other teachers, while helping me build a relationship with my future students," Lund said.

Soon, Lund will transition from her team of Lutes to a team of teachers.
