Batin believes her involvement in Division III athletics has developed her leadership skills by providing her a space to practice communication, support, and awareness, while continuing to be passionate about her sport.
Â
"Being able to play sports at PLU especially at the university level has taught me the meaning of friendship, leadership, mental strength, and time management," Batin said.
Â
For Batin, the best part of being a Lute athlete is making new friends and having the proud identity of a student-athlete.
Â
"I'm so happy to have met such a wonderful group of people whom I have made long lasting friendships with. They have become family during my time at PLU. I will be forever thankful to have them in my life."
Â
The Covington, Washington native spent two seasons on the squad, racking up seven singles victories and three doubles wins during that span. During the 2019 season, Batin won five singles matches, playing primarily at the No. 6 position while primarily playing at No. 2 doubles with
Kristi Floyd. This season, Batin played primarily at the No. 4 singles spot, picking up two wins in the abbreviated season while collecting two wins at No. 2 doubles with partner
Bayley Gochanour. Batin was a big part of the Lutes' early season success, owning a 4-4 record and a 1-0 mark in Northwest Conference play when the season was shut down.
Â
"This was to be Michelle's second year on the team, said Head Coach
Cheri Campbell. "She chose to delay graduation with her nursing degree to play one more year of tennis which unfortunately, was cut short. However, Michelle brings such a positive attitude and energy that while the season has been cut short, her presence is so appreciated. Michelle brings a smile and willingness to work hard on her fitness and tennis skills."
Â
After graduation, Batin plans to take the NCLEX in June and get a job either in Labor and Delivery or Mother Baby.
