Box Score TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis squad played its first match on Washington soil this spring on Friday, coming up short 7-2 in a non-conference clash against crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound.
In doubles,
Taylor Stokes and
Ella Burriss scratched out an 8-7 (10-8) tiebreaker win at the No. 1 position while
Meggie Burnett and
Tianna Jeffries battled hard before ultimately succumbing 8-5 at the No. 3 spot.
In singles, Burriss rolled the Loggers' Laura Schneidman, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6 to close out the afternoon undefeated. The win improves Burriss to 2-0 on the season in singles play.Â
"I'm proud of how the players fought against a deep team," said
Cheri Campbell. "Stokes and Burriss had a huge win at the No. 1 doubles spot."
The Lutes (1-3) are back on the courts tomorrow afternoon, hosting College of Idaho at 2 p.m. at the Sprinker Recreation Center.Â
