Women's Tennis Tames Pumas, 7-0

Box Score PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's tennis squad showed little signs of rust on Monday afternoon, smashing host Paradise Valley Community College 7-0 in the Lutes' first match of the spring. 

Ella Burriss and Jillian Chong were flawless at No. 1 doubles, taking down the Puma tandem of Azelia Lara and Noelani Lui by an 8-0 scoreline. At No. 2 doubles, Chloe Andrewjeski and Lilian Nguyen won by default.

In singles action, Andrewjeski dug deep for a, 6-2, 7-6(3) victory at No. 1 while Nguyen cruised to a, 6-0, 6-0, victory over Lui at the No. 2 position. Chong breezed to a, 6-0, 6-1, win at No. 3 while Burriss and Meggie Burnett won by default at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. 

"Tremendous 7-0 season opener for the Lutes," said Head Coach Michael Harmon

"First-year No. 1 Chloe showed a lot of heart and mental toughness coming back from 2-5 in the second set to defeat a very solid Natalie Esperaza, 6-2, 7-6(3)."

It was the Lutes first dual match of the season and PLU's first competition since the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northwest Regional back on Sept. 26.

The Lutes are back on the court tomorrow, facing Ottawa University at 10 a.m. before squaring off against Mesa Community College at 4 p.m.
