Softball: The Lutes (12-4, 4-0 NWC) extended its win streak to six with a series sweep of George Fox University over the weekend. PLU edged the Bruins 5-4 and 1-0 on Saturday before piling on the runs on Sunday, belting eight home runs in 11-5 and 11-4 victories for the Lutes' first series sweep of George Fox since the 2011 season.

Amaya Smith tossed a complete game shutout on Saturday, allowing just four hits and striking out five. Paola Garcia drove in the winning run in the 1-0 win before blasting a home run and a grand slam in the same inning in PLU's 11-5 win on Sunday. That game also saw Erin McGrath tie the school record for career home runs with her 34th blast in a Lute uniform.

McGrath hit .500 on the weekend and was tabbed the NWC Hitter of the Week for the second time this season.

Men's Track & Field: The Lutes won three events at the outdoor season opener on Saturday at the Ed Boitano Invitational. Masum Real headlined the weekend, winning both the shot put and discus and on Monday was tabbed the NWC Field Athlete of the Week. Real currently boasts the top throws in NCAA Division III in both the shot and discus and ranks 10th nationally in the hammer throw.

Keola Sanchez won the 100-meter dash in 10.99 and owns the 12th fastest time in D3 this season and the fastest time in the NWC. His performance earned him NWC Track Athlete of the Week laurels on Monday.

Ryan Stracke and Owen Ladinig own the top two times in D3 in the 10,000-meters while Larson Fairbairn had a big PR in the hammer and ranks fourth in the nation in the event.

This weekend the Lutes will compete as a split squad with Grady Lemma participating at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships while the rest of the squad stays home and competes at the PLU Open.

Women's Tennis: The Lutes (7-4, 1-0 NWC) finished the weekend undefeated, edging Bellevue College 5-4 on Friday night before taking down University of Puget Sound 5-2 on Saturday.

Jillian Chong continues to be on fire in singles play, winning both her matches at the No. 3 spot to extend her win streak to eight matches. Chong currently boasts a 9-1 record in singles this season. Chong and doubles partner Meggie Burnett secured a pair of wins at No. 2, pushing their season record to 6-3.

Women's Track & Field: Three Lutes won events at the outdoor opener at Puget Sound, including reigning national champion Ava Nelson shattering her own school record in the javelin.

Nelson extended her school record by over a foot with a toss of 151 feet, nine inches. It's currently the best throw in D3 this season and the seventh best chuck in all of collegiate track & field. Sarah Paquet won the 10,000-meters in convincing fashion and owns the fastest 10K in all of collegiate track while Tabitha Messineo won the hammer throw.

Both Nelson and Paquet were recognized by the NWC on Monday with Nelson earning NWC Field Athlete of the Week and Paquet landing NWC Track Athlete of the Week honors.

Women's Rowing: Pacific Lutheran opened the spring racing season on Saturday at the PLU Invitational. The Lutes' varsity eight boat finished third in both of its races while the second varsity eight finished fourth in its first race and third in its second race of the day.

On Monday, the PLU 1V8+ was honored by the NWC office, securing NWC Crew of the Week honors. The Lutes are back on the water this weekend, competing at the Logger Invite on Saturday before going head-to-head with the Loggers on Sunday in the annual Lamberth Cup.

Baseball: It was a tough weekend for the Lutes (6-8, 1-5 NWC), dropping their three-game series at home against Pacific University.

The opening game was a pitcher's duel, with the Boxer using small ball to etch out the 1-0 win. Big inning sabotaged the Lutes on Sunday, conceding five runs in the first inning of game one and six runs in the opening inning of game two in 15-8 and 17-3 setbacks.

The Lutes are hitting .305 as a team with Andy Schmitz leading the way with a .411 average with 14 RBIs and 10 extra base hits. On the hill, Spencer Howell has made four starts with a 2-1 record and 22 punchouts.

Men's Tennis: Pacific Lutheran (0-6, 0-1) played a pair of matches on the road over the weekend, falling 9-0 to Bellevue College before opening NWC action with a 9-0 setback to Puget Sound.

Dillon Wells and Drew Kraft continued to gel as doubles partners, battling against both the Bulldogs and Loggers at the No. 1 position.

Women's Golf: After having both legs of the Washington Cup erased due to weather, the Lutes hope to finally catch a break and open the spring season on Monday at the Cal Lu Invitational.

The Lutes had a strong finish to the fall season, placing fourth at the NWC Fall Classic with Emily Fisher placing ninth overall at the tournament in Salem, Oregon.
