Seth Kramer won the long jump and
Masum Real won the shot put at Lewis and Clark College's Larry Byerly Invitational on Friday and Saturday to lead the Pacific Lutheran University men's track and field team.

On his third attempt, Kramer jumped 21' 8" to win the long jump. The freshman edged the field by 3 1/4". Real crushed the field in the shot put with a heave of 54' 7 ¼", nearly two feet more than the next closest competitor. Real's toss also places him fifth in the country, four spots higher than he was ranked previously. Additionally, the junior finished fourth in the discus (141' 11"). Â

Larson Fairbairn and
Darius Chaffin added to the PLU point total in the throws and helped the Lutes finish third out of 21 competing teams. Fairbairn produced a third-place effort in the discus (146' 6"), while Chaffin finished fourth in the javelin with a toss of 171' 5".

PLU also faired well in the sprints with
Keola Sanchez taking fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.05). Sanchez then teamed with
Lucio Penaloza,
Steele Swinton, and
Kellen Meade to take second in the 4x100-meter relay (43.07).

Saturday marked PLU's final tune-up before next weekend's Northwest Conference Championship, which will be held on the campus of Willamette University beginning on Friday and continuing into Saturday.
