SEATTLE, Wash.-- Grady Lemma qualified for the finals and notched a personal best time in the hurdles, headlining the day for the Pacific Lutheran University track & field teams on Saturday at the UW Indoor Preview Meet at Dempsey Indoor.
"It was a solid day all around for us. It was great to see Grady with a PR in the 60 hurdles," said Head Coach
Trey Henderson.
"Getting our first years in the jumps squad another early season competition was good as well. I thought the women had a good day in the high jump especially Abigail Caprye, she had a good debut jumping close to her PR in her first meet!"
Lemma clocked a personal best time of 8.61 seconds in his preliminary heat to advance to the finals, eventually placing seventh overall and first among Division III competitors with a time of 8.77. The junior additionally finished 11th in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet, 10 inches, with teammates
Garrett Armbruster and
Blake Leahy tying for 13th overall in the vault.
Cooper Claxton was 11th in the triple jump with a leap of 38' 10 1/4" while
Tyger Willingham was 14th in the long jump (20' 9 1/4"). Willingham clocked a time of 7.42 in the 60-meters while
Kai Sorensen was the lone distance runner competing, clocking a 4:32.11 in the mile.
On the women's side,
Abi Caprye made her collegiate debut, clearing 5' 1" in the high jump to finish 11th overall and first among D3 jumpers while fellow first years
Madison Downey and
Cheyanne Hicks placed 13th and 16th, respectively.
Kloe Salazar was ninth overall in the triple jump with a mark of 31' 4 3/4" while clocking a time of 10.55 in the 60-meter hurdles. Â

The Lutes return to Seattle in two weeks, competing at the UW Invitational on Jan. 26 and 27.
