HILLSBORO, Ore. — The Northwest Conference office released its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon with the seven-time NWC Champion Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team earning a clean sweep of the awards.
Julia Causbie had a record setting weekend and was tabbed the NWC Offensive Player of the Week while teammate
Kayden Hulquist was named the NWC Defensive Player of the Week.
Causbie lands Offensive Player of the Week after netting two goals and four assists in a pair of Lute victories last week. The senior converted a penalty kick in the 38th minute against crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound on Wednesday in a 1-0 win over the Loggers before scoring a goal and tying a school record with four assists in a 5-2 drubbing of Lewis & Clark College. The Edmonds, Washington native scored in the 11th minute while collecting assists in the eighth, 13th, 24th, and 27th minutes.
Causbie currently leads the NWC in assists with five and ranks second in the nine-team circuit in points with 11 on the year (three goals and five assists).Â
Hulquist tallies Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring a defensive backline that opened conference play by going 297 minutes without conceding a goal. That included limiting Puget Sound to just five total shots on Wednesday and none on goal in the shutout win against the intracity rivals while allowing just eight shots on goal in the road victory over Lewis & Clark on Saturday. Hulquist additionally helped the team out on the other end of the field, adding an insurance score in the 27th minute to give the Lutes' a five goal buffer.
This is the second time this fall the Lutes have swept the NWC Player of the Week Awards with the program capturing the honor five total times this fall.
Abby Winkler was named NWC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2 and 9 while
Olivia Boehm was named NWC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2.
The Lutes (4-1-3, 3-0-1 NWC) return to Oregon this weekend, facing George Fox University on Saturday and Pacific University on Sunday. Kickoffs on both days are set for 2:45 p.m.Â
