TACOMA, Wash.--- The Pacific Lutheran University women's track and field team finished up the PLU Invitational on Saturday with the throwing events battling rain and heavy wind conditions out on the PLU Track.
Â
A pair of Lute throwers in the shot put led the way amongst Division III competitors, as
Tajanai Huff threw a best of 10.01-meters on her second of three throws, just missing the finals by 0.52-meters. She was closely followed by
Samayia White who had a best of 9.70-meters.
Â
In the women's hammer throw, three Lutes made the finals, led by Alessandra Valmonte who's best was 43.03-meters, good enough for fourth; also the highest amongst Division III athletes at the meet. Also madding the second round of throws was White who took sixth with a best of 40.83-meters.
Eva Wirth earned eighth-place, with her one mark of 38.82-meters.
Â
Katy Cook led the Lutes in the javelin, as her third throw of 36.02-meters was good enough for second place, finishing three meters behind the thrower from Western Washington University. Wirth was the Lutes top athlete in the Discus, as her throw of 33.97-meters was the sixth-best, but good enough to finish ahead of Puget Sound; the only other Division III school competing in the event.
Â
The Lutes head to Southern California next weekend for the Westmont Classic hosted by Westmont College in Santa Barbara.
