TACOMA, Wash.--- The Pacific Lutheran University Men's track and field team competed across town on Saturday, taking third as a team at the Peyton Shotwell Invitational hosted by rival Puget Sound.
Â
Saturday's meet featured four total Northwest Conference squads, with the Lutes finishing behind UPS and Whitworth, while clearing the Whitman Blues as a team.
Â
The Lutes began the day with the 4x100-meter relay, taking home the fastest time of 44.07, thanks to
Kaimana Satterfield,
Davyn Waters,
Steele Swinton, and
Kellen Meade. Meade and Swinton returned to the track not long after, as they each finished second and third in the 100-meter dash. Meade ran a 11.00 flat while Swinton was just behind with an 11.28.
Â
Grady Lemma continued his dominance in the 400-meter hurdles event, taking the fastest time at Saturday's meet with a 56.98, earning nearly a one-second clearance on the next best finisher.
Â
At the throwing events,
George Sonko had himself a day, finishing third in the discus, as his throw of 42.27-meters was good for third, and the second-best from a thrower at the Division III level. Sonko then finished second in the shot put, with a heave of 13.46-meters. Micah Ragasa-Bourassa also finished sixth in the event with a throw of 12.99-meters.
Â
Connor Meade eclipsed the 50-meter mark in the javelin on Saturday, as his best throw of 50.07-meters earned him second place, but was the best thrower from the Division III level in the meet. In the pole vault,
Aidan Donnelly took third, leaping over the 3.95-meter mark.
Â
Seth Kramer captured third place in the men's long jump, finishing with a best of 6.54-meters, just behind the athlete from Puget Sound for the best jump from an NWC athlete.
Â
"Today was a nice end to spring break. We had a smaller group competing but there were some good performances especially after just getting back from California two days ago." Said Head Track & Field Coach
Trey Henderson
"Addisen Hering had a really strong day in the hurdles. Connor and
Kellen Meade both had good days respectively. It will be good to get back at it at home next week. Three weeks until conference and ther's a lot we can still continue to get better at!"
Â
The Lutes host their final home meet of the spring next weekend at the PLU Track, as the PLU Spring Invitational will begin next Friday at 10 a.m.
