PORTLAND, Ore. — Kyleigh Archer won the triple jump title on Sunday, headlining the Pacific Lutheran University women's track & field team's efforts at the 2025 Northwest Conference Championships, tying for sixth place at the two-day meet hosted by Lewis & Clark College.
Kyleigh Archer and
Madison Downey maintained their stranglehold on the top two spots in the triple jump, swapping podium positions from a season ago. Archer won the NWC crown with a winning leap of 38 feet, ¼ inch on her fifth attempt of the day. Downey, the reigning NWC Champion, was runner-up after leaping 36' 10 ½" on her sixth and final attempt of the meet. Combined the jumping duo scored 18 points for the Lutes in the event.
"Kyleigh and Madison were awesome this weekend," said Head Coach
Trey Henderson.
"Kyleigh was outstanding getting the win and improving on her performance from last year's meet."
Eva Wirth logged a fourth place showing in the discus with a toss of 122' 3" on her second of six attempts.
Tajanai Huff was 10th in her NWC Championships debut with a throw of 113' 8".
In the shot put,
Kloe Salazar placed fifth overall with a personal best throw of 40' 2 ¾" on her fifth attempt of the afternoon.
Abi Caprye was fifth in the high jump clearing 5' 1 ¼" on the second attempt while Downey was ninth (4' 11 ½") and
Sydney Sparks was 11th(4' 9 ½").
Addisen Hering registered a third place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 15.21 to earn a spot on the podium. Hering later placed eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:09.27.
PLU was fifth in the 4x100-meter relay with Hering,
D'Yhana Clemons,
Sarah Brandt, and
Abi Caprye clocking a time of 50.53. PLU's 4x400-meter relay squad finished eighth in 4:22.51.
The Lutes finished tied for sixth place with Linfield University in the team standings with 68.5 points. It was a tight race that saw just five points separate fourth place from eighth place. George Fox University reigned atop the standings with 219 points with Whitworth University earning second billing with 167.5 points. PLU's point tally was 2.5 points ahead of crosstown rival University of Puget Sound.
"The team battled and represented themselves and the University incredibly well. As a staff we are really proud of them."
PLU is back in Portland on Saturday for the Portland Twilight meet.
