HILLSBORO, Ore. — The nascent Pacific Lutheran University women's lacrosse team looks to buck expectations this spring after being picked to finish ninth in the Northwest Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Friday.
The Lutes, who begin their second ever season tonight, were picked to finish ninth, collecting 10 points in the poll. Whitman College and George Fox University tied for top honors, both landing 59 points. Whitman received five of the eight first place votes with the Bruins securing three.Â
Willamette University is third with 52 points followed by Lewis & Clark College in fourth (43 points). Whitworth University is fifth with 36 points followed by Linfield University in sixth (30 points), University of Puget Sound in seventh (19 points), and Pacific University in eighth (16 points).

PLU hosts Southwestern University tonight at East Field to open the season. Opening draw is set for 6 p.m. The Lutes begin NWC play on April 3 in McMinnville, Oregon against Linfield.
