TACOMA, Wash. - 110 minutes was not enough time for a winner to emerge on Sunday at East Field as the Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team battled to a scoreless double overtime stalemate with Whittier College to close out its non-conference slate.

"Credit to Whittier, they were physical and aggressive. This was a good early test and I'm glad we went through it because we're going to have teams that will try and disrupt us with physical play in conference," said Head Coach Seth Spidahl.

The Lutes (3-0-1) owned a commanding 20-11 edge in shots, including a 10-5 margin in shots on goal in a physical contest that included 29 total fouls and one caution.

PLU appeared to have a game-winner with just over 30 seconds left in double overtime on a Machaela Graddy header but the goal was waved off on an offsides call.

Takara Mitsui nabbed her third clean sheet of the season in goal, making five saves in 110 minutes of action while the Poets' (2-1-1) Alexi Cruz turned away 10 shots on the afternoon.

17 of PLU's 20 shots came during regulation with Graddy leading the way with four shots on goal.

"To be in control of our performance we need to be in control of our emotions. For the most part I thought we did a good job of that."

"We did create some quality chances but it just didn't happen today. I'm proud we didn't concede either. We've had some good tests. We've had a lot of different experiences to get ready for conference and that is kind of what non-conference is. Our hopes to play beyond in November rest on conference play and all of this is prep for that."

The Lutes continue their homestand on Saturday, beginning Northwest Conference play against Whitworth University at 12 p.m.
