TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University women's swimming team turned in a dominant performance on Saturday, downing Northwest Conference rival Pacific University 159-38 at the PLU Pool.
"We had a lot of fun today," said Head Coach
Matt Sellman. "We really tried to give the team chances to swim their secondary races and some things they don't get to swim often. They performed very well and gave us some nice surprises. We also had some great class relays that made those races a little more intense."
The Lutes opened up the meet with a bang, going one-two-three in the 400-yard medley relay. The team of
Kylie Webb,
Ingrid Straume,
Taylor Bingea, and
Sydney Bishoff took top billing, touching the wall in 4:22.04.
Straume earned two additional victories, capturing the 200-yard individual medley (2:22.55) and teaming up with
Kiyomi Kishaba,
Rebecca Perkins, and
Hannah VanHeyningen to win the 400-yard freestyle relay to close the meet.
Kaycee Simpson netted a pair of individual wins in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:18.00) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.34). While
Bailey Hamilton added wins in the 50-yard freestyle (25.97) and 100-yard backstroke (1:02.74).
Bingea, Kishaba,
Victoria Nguyenle, and
Jenna Muller each added an individual win for the Lutes. Bingea captured the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.24), Kishaba won the 100-yard freestyle (57.67), Nguyenle won the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.18), and Muller continued the Lute dominance in the 500-yard freestyle (5:38.91).
