TACOMA, Wash. - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association recognized teams and individuals from around the nation for their commitment to academic success on Thursday with the Pacific Lutheran University men's and women's track & field teams earning the Academic Team Award while
Bailey Forsyth earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
"One of our goals each year is to earn All-Academic honors as a team," said Head Coach
Adam Frye. "I'm especially proud of the academic performance of our teams given the switch to online learning in the middle of the spring term."
This is the second consecutive season Forsyth has snagged USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades. To be eligible, student-athletes needed a minimum 3.30 GPA while ranking in the top 50 in NCAA Division III in an individual event or the top 35 in a relay event. Forsyth punched her ticket on the team after finishing the indoor season with the 29th fastest time in the nation in the 60-meter dash, clocking a time of 7.81 in her lone indoor meet of the year.
"It's great for Bailey to be recognized for her outstanding academic and athletic performance. I know we would have had several more honored if we'd been able to compete in the outdoor season."
The PLU men's team won the Academic Team Award after boasting a cumulative 3.19 grade point average. The Lutes were one of five Northwest Conference institutions to win the honor. The Lute women snagged the honor after boasting a 3.42 GPA and was one of six NWC squads to be recognized. To be considered for the honor, teams must carry a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00.
