TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team recorded a pair of victories, but was unable to keep pace with Whitman College on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Blues 145-55 at the PLU Pool.
"It was a great start to the season with some strong racing," said PLU Head Coach
Matt Sellman. "We swam well and are holding it together considering how decimated we have been with illness and other factors. We got some good racing in and some great early season swims."
Things started off well for the Lutes as the foursome of
Devin Stanley,
Seth Koivisto,
Charlie Cutter and
Christiaan Chandler won the 200-yard medley relay (1:40.47), but the Lutes would only record one other first-place finish on the day. Koivisto claimed the title in 100 breaststroke later in the meet, finishing three seconds ahead of the next closest competitor (59.94).
Cutter earned a runner-up finish in the 50 freestyle (22.76), while Koivisto also took silver in the 100 butterfly (54.39).
The quartet of Cutter, Carson Braddock, Stanley and Chandler also placed second in the 200 free relay to close out the dual.
The Lutes will look to score their first win of the season next weekend when they head to Linfield University on Friday evening and Lewis & Clark College on Saturday afternoon.
