WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's swimming team continued its dual meet dominance on Saturday, winning 11 of the 13 events contested for a blowout 142-100 victory over host Whitman College. The victory extended the Lutes' win streak in Northwest Conference dual meets to 15 straight a streak stretching back to the 2018-2019 season.
"It was a great meet for the women," said Head Coach
Matt Sellman.
"They swam great, probably even better than a couple weeks ago and they needed to as Whitman was swimming their last races of the season and made the meet a lot of fun to watch."
The Lutes' got off to a hot-start winning the opening three events of the meet.
Kiyomi Kishaba,
Isabella Valles,
Annika Eisele, and
Sidney Chan-Orcutt combined to win the 200-yard medley relay by a comfortable five-second margin, touching the wall in one minute, 49.98 seconds, to open the day.
Malia Wisham prevailed in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 1:55.70 while Kishaba won her second event of the day after taking the 50-yard backstroke in 28.29.
Eisele took top billing in the 100-yard butterfly, clocking a time of 58.62 before
Jessica Ordaz won consecutive events, taking the 50-yard freestyle in 24.80 and the 100-yard freestyle in 53.46.
Eisele topped the podium again, winning the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.13 with Kishaba in a close second in 1:00.59. Wisham won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:07.18 while Ordaz (26.48) and
Bailey Hamilton (26.88) went one-two in the 50-yard butterfly.
Wisham tied Whitman's Erin McKinney in the 100-yard individual medley, both touching the wall in 1:01.54. The Lutes wrapped up the meet by taking the 400-yard freestyle relay as the team of Chan-Orcutt, Hamilton, Ordaz, and Wisham finished in 3:38.59.
The Lutes (3-0) additionally received a runner-up finish from Valles in the 50-yard breaststroke (31.37).
"This group is very impressive and have taken full advantage of the opportunity to compete, making zero excuses along the way. I'm just so impressed with them."
The Lutes take next weekend off before heading across town to face the University of Puget Sound on March 5 and 6 for a two-day dual meet to close the season.
