TACOMA, Wash. – The Women's Golf Coaches Association recognized the top academic achievers in the sport on Thursday with Pacific Lutheran University women's golf student-athletes
Sophie Kass and
Nicole Matiatos earning the WGCA's All-American Scholar Award for third consecutive year.

The pair were among 13 student-athletes from the Northwest Conference to earn the accolade, joining five from George Fox University, four from Whitman College and two from Linfield University. To be selected for the honor, student-athletes needed to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or better.Â

On the course, Matiatos was named First Team All-NWC after finishing ninth at the NWC Fall Classic, fourth at the NWC Spring Classic and sixth at the NWC Championships. Kass earned Second Team honors after placing 18
th at the Fall Classic, 16
th at the Spring Classic and 11
th at NWC Championships.Â

The senior duo helped the Lutes to a historical spring, playing runner-up at both the NWC Spring Classic and the NWC Championships. PLU's performance at the NWC Championships was the program's highest finish since placing second back in 2000.
