TACOMA, Wash. - Charlie Cutter won the 50-yard freestyle but the Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team was unable to keep pace with host University of Puget Sound on Saturday at Wallace Pool, closing the Northwest Conference dual meet slate with a 180-64 setback.
"The meet was a lot of fun," said Head Coach
Matt Sellman.
"We were definitely tired and it showed in our splits but we finished the regular season well and are excited to get in top taper and rest for some really fast swims at the NWC Championships."
Cutter won the 50 free in 22.70 seconds while also placing third in the 100-yard butterfly in 57.05.
Seth Koivisto was runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking a time of 57.33 before logging another second place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 50.44. Koivisto additionally was third in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.32).
PLU was runner-up in the 200-yard medley relay with
Devin Stanley, Koivisto,
Christiaan Chandler, and
Carson Braddock clocked a time of 1:40.89 while Cutter,
Na'inoa Loo,
Luke Farag, and
Nicolas Celebrado placed third in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:44.63).
The Lutes had third place finishers in Braddock in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.77), Farag in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:19.74) and 500-yard freestyle (5:32.91), Loo in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.12) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.76), and Stanley in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.73).
PLU has the next week off before heading up to Federal Way, Washington on Feb. 10 for day one of the 2022 NWC Championships held at the King County Aquatic Center.
