TACOMA, Wash. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's swimming team reaffirmed its status as the top team in the Northwest Conference on Saturday afternoon, vanquishing University of Puget Sound 162-99 inside Wallace Pool for the Lutes' seventh straight NWC dual meet title.
The Lutes (8-0, 7-0 NWC) flexed its muscles against the previously undefeated Loggers (6-2, 5-1 NWC), winning 11 of the 14 events contested to stretch their win streak to 26 consecutive dual meets.
Jessica Ordaz and
Malia Wisham provided a one-two punch in the dual win, both racking up four event victories while
Bailey Hamilton logged three event wins on the afternoon.
Annika Eisele,
Isabella Valles, Hamilton, and
Sidney Chan-Orcutt opened things up by winning the 200-yard medley relay by a comfortable seven-second margin, touching the wall in one minute, 51.89 seconds.
Wisham bested the field in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 1:56.31 before claiming the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke, part of a 1-2-3 finish for the Lutes. Wisham stood atop the leaderboard after clocking a time of 1:10.44 with Valles (1:11.18), and
Makenzie Chan-Orcutt (1:11.52) filling in behind in second and third.
Ordaz earned a 10-second win in the 200-yard butterfly, gliding to the victory in 2:10.10 while Hamilton clocked a 25.86 to win the 50-yard freestyle. Ordaz stood atop the podium again in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 54.71 with
Sidney Chan-Orcutt placing runner-up (56.13).
Valles and
Makenzie Chan-Orcutt claimed the top two spots in the 200-yard breaststroke, registering times of 2:31.76 and 2:35.26, respectively.
Wisham won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:16.08 with Hamilton topping the field in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:00.95.
Ordaz won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:12.81 before teaming up with Wisham,
Sidney Chan-Orcutt, and
Makenzie Chan-Orcutt to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:43.34 to wrap up the meet.
"We're so proud of the senior class and all they've accomplished, it's one of the best classes to ever come through the program," said Head Coach
Matt Sellman.
"Four years of great culture and building on everything that came before. Hard to beat their 29-2 record over four years. That's pretty incredible and they're a fun group. They have incredible personality and always challenging me to be great as a coach because they want to be great."
PLU had runner-up finishes from
Mary Campbell in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:33.02) and Eisele in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.00) and 200-yard backstroke (2:15.53).
The Lutes take next weekend off before competing at the 2022 NWC Championships beginning on Feb. 10 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington.
