TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team won six events but was unable to match the depth of visiting Lewis & Clark College on Saturday at the PLU Pool, as the Lutes fell 102-92 to the Pioneers in a Northwest Conference dual meet.
"It was a tough series of meets this weekend against some quality opponents in Linfield and Lewis & Clark," said Head CoachÂ
Andrew Lum.
"The Lutes battled through some tough obstacles but nevertheless showed up when it mattered most. We're proud of the way they attacked each race and continued to find ways to give their best on that day while enjoying the process."
The Lutes opened up the meet by winning the 200-yard medley relay with
Devin Stanley,
Na'inoa Loo,
Charlie Cutter, and
Ben Thompson combining to finish in one minute, 41.68 seconds, enjoying a nearly eight-second gap on the Pios.
Stanley won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.13 before
Tyler Tanaka secure the win in the 400-yard individual medley, clocking a time of 4:23.93 to blow away the field. Tanaka later won the 500-yard freestyle by a 12 second cushion, finishing in 4:59.61.
Loo won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:04.01 while Cutter, Thompson, Tanaka, and Stanley closed out by winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:30.6.
Thompson was runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 51.92 while Loo was second in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.16.
The Lutes (0-4, 0-4 NWC) are back in action on Friday, Dec. 2, making the quick jaunt across town for the Logger Invitational hosted by the University of Puget Sound.Â
