Men's swimming battles Blues tough

RESULTS

WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran men's swimming team battled Saturday, but it wasn't enough in a 144-51 setback in Northwest Conference dual meet action.

Tyler Tanaka had a pair of wins, while Devin Stanley added another to lead the Lutes.

"It's never an easy task when you race the Whits on your first official week of dual meet season," PLU coach Andrew Lum said. "With that said, the Lutes absolutely blew expectations out of the water today and Friday."

Tanaka won the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 1.37 seconds and then won the 200 breaststroke in 2:13.03.

Stanley won his gold in the 100 freestyle in 48.11 seconds.

"Every single person played an integral role toward our team's success this weekend," Lum said. "Our returners continue to shine in their leadership, attitude and composure.

"Our first-years stepped up big time regardless of the event, occasion or long travel we had."

Na'inoa Loo was second in the 200 breaststroke in 2:20.63, while Charlie Cutter, Stanley, Ben Thompson and Tanaka teamed up to take second in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:21.93.

The Lutes have a week off before returning to the pool at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 against Linfield at the PLU Pool.
