WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran women's swim team 27-meet win streak came to an end Saturday, as the Lutes fell 120-78 against Whitman College in Northwest Conference action.
Malia Wisham and Annika Eisele won an individual title each and were on two winning relays, but it wasn't enough to overcome a deep Blues squad.
"It's never an easy task when you race the Whits on your first official week of dual meet season," PLU coach Andrew Lum said. "With that said, the Lutes absolutely blew expectations out of the water today and Friday."
Wisham won gold in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing in 2 minutes, 15.05 seconds, while Eisele earned her gold in the 200 butterfly in 2:24.37.
Both swimmers were on the winning 400 medley relay (4:11.8) and the 400 free relay (3:49.38).
"Every single person played an integral role toward our team's success this weekend," Lum said. "Our returners continue to shine in their leadership, attitude and composure.
"Our first-years stepped up big time regardless of the event, occasion or long travel we had."
Claire Cranch won gold in the 200 backstroke (2:17.28) and was second in the 200 butterfly (2:25.45), while Jersey Razzano added a second place finish in the 1,000 free (11:52.26) and Makenzie Chan-Orcutt was second in the 200 breaststroke (2:37.07).
Eisele and Wisham were joined on the medley relay by Cranch and Sidney Chan-Orcutt, while Razzano and Chan-Orcutt were also on the freestyle relay.
The Lutes have a week off before returning to the pool at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 against Linfield at the PLU Pool.
