TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's swimming team resumed the Northwest Conference dual meet season with a bang on Friday night, with six different student-athletes winning events in a 99-56 victory over Pacific University.
"The Lutes had a very difficult task tonight swimming some tough races such as the 1,650 free and the 400 IM. Stack on top of that some of the most intense training we've done this season but they showed up big time. So much so that we had some people hit some lifetime bests, and beat their times from our mid-season Meet. Big shout outs to first-year
Alisa Sokolova for hitting 100% lifetime best," said Head Coach
Andrew Lum.
Malia Wisham and
Annika Eisele teamed up with a pair of Lutes from the men's squad to win the mixed 200-yard medley relay to open the meet, clocking an effort of one minute, 51.41 seconds.
Allie Burke breezed to the win in the 1,650-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 21:14.80 before Wisham blew away the field in the 200-yard freestyle, enjoying a winning margin of over nine seconds with a time of 2:00.56. Wisham claimed her third win of the night in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 1:01.91.
Makenzie Chan-Orcutt prevailed in the 400-yard individual medley (5:04.81) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.80) while
Claire Cranch was the top finisher in the 500-yard freestyle (5:39.39).
PLU closed out the meet with Burke and
Maya Lovre earning a win as members of the mixed 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:45.27).
"We're very excited to compete against a stout team in Willamette tomorrow."
The Lutes have a quick turnaround, returning to the water tomorrow at 11 a.m. for a dual meet against Willamette University.
