NEWBERG, Ore. - The Pacific Lutheran University women's swimming team collected its third straight dual meet win on Friday night, winning nine of the 11 events contested to surge past Northwest Conference rival George Fox University, 112-78.
"We've had a great week of training and it definitely showed against the Bruins tonight. GFU has a sizable and strong depth chart but the Lutes were up to the challenges thrown at them," said Head Coach
Andrew Lum.
"There were numerous close battles and the Lutes were able to gut out the hard fought wins against some mighty Bruin swims. Kudos to all the swimmers tonight on both sides for making this an electrifying race experience."
The Lutes (5-3, 5-2 NWC) set the tone in the 400-yard medley relay with
Annika Eisele,
Makenzie Chan-Orcutt,
Sidney Chan-Orcutt, and
Jersey Razzano winning the event by a comfortable 10-second margin after touching the wall in four minutes, 12.69 seconds.
Sidney Chan-Orcutt edged out the field in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in 2:03.21 while
Makenzie Chan-Orcutt secured top billing in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.39.
Claire Cranch breezed to the win in the 200-yard individual medley, turning in a time of 2:19.76 before
Sidney Chan-Orcutt won her third event of the night, taking the 200-yard butterfly in 2:26.71.
Eisele won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:16.48 to secure a 1-2-3 sweep of the event with
Maya Lovre runner-up (2:20.44) and
Allie Burke third overall (2:32.85).
Razzano won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:40.36 with
Makenzie Chan-Orcutt winning her third event of the meet with the top time in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:34.36).
Razzano, Eisele, Lovre, and Cranch closed out the meet in style, winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in 4:03.91.
"We're excited to see some people really come out of the woodwork tonight. Claire had some mighty swims in the 200 IM, 200 breast, and 400 free relay. Sidney exercised extreme patience, and doggedness, in her exhilarating races in the 200 free and 200 fly."
The Lutes host crosstown nemesis University of Puget Sound next Saturday to close out the dual meet season. Action inside the PLU Pool is set for 1 p.m.
"It's an exciting thought to see how the Lutes will perform next weekend against UPS on our senior day! Another tough ask but we feel confident they will have a strong answer."
