TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University swimming programs competed against a pair of non-conference opponents on Friday evening, winning five events in the final home meet of the fall semester.

The Lute women blew away College of Idaho 129-27 but fell short 102-75 to Southwestern Oregon Community College while the men dropped a 117-64 dual to SWOCC and 104-76 to College of Idaho.

"It was a breath of fresh air to race non-conference competition today. The energy from new teams invigorated the Lutes, and it showed very well tonight," said Head Coach

The Lute men dominated the 50-yard freestyle with
Tyler Tanaka and
Khosbayar Amgalan tying for first place after both touching the wall in 22.51 seconds. Finishing just a split second behind in third was teammate
Devin Stanley (22.63).

Emiliano Zuniga won the 200-yard backstroke, finishing in 2:24.72 before Tanaka won his second event of the night in the 200-yard breaststroke, winning the event in a comfortable five second margin (2:12.78).Â

PLU was runner-up in the 400-yard medley relay with a team of Stanley, Tanaka, Amgalan, and
Na'inoa Loo finishing in 3:42.28.

On the women's side, the Lutes snagged the top two places in the 200-yard backstroke.
Emma Gassman won the event in convincing fashion, clocking a 2:14.65 for a nearly nine second win while teammate
Riley Maher was second in 2:23.62. Gassman would also log a second place showing in the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.69).

Makenzie Chan-Orcutt took the win in the 200-yard breaststroke, clocking a time of 2:39.51 with
Anna Matisons touching the wall in second in 2:43.30.Â

PLU took second billing in the 400-yard medley relay (4:31.88) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:56.72) along with runner-up finishes from
Litzy Orona in the 200-yard freestyle (2:14.36) and
Sidney Chan-Orcutt in the 100-yard freestyle (57.39).

"The Lutes were able to mix it up with our event selections, and we found some very interesting diamonds in the rough from tonight. We're excited to carry on this energy towards our last conference dual meet of the semester against George Fox next Saturday."

The Lutes are back in the pool next Saturday, traveling to Newberg, Oregon to face Northwest Conference rival George Fox University.Â
