TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming program flexed its muscles at Friday's season opener, winning nine of the 11 events contested to down Willamette University 117-72 in a Northwest Conference dual meet inside the PLU Pool.
"Willamette brought their absolute "A" game tonight. They put the Lutes against the wall in multiple events, but we did what we do best— dig in and rally with each other," said Head Coach
Andrew Lum.
The tone was set early, with the Lutes (1-0, 1-0 NWC) winning the opening three events of the evening.Â
Khosbayar Amgalan,
Tyler Tanaka,
Dylan Dang, and
Devin Stanley teamed up to win the 200-yard medley relay, touching the wall in one minute, 40.40 seconds. The good times continued with Tanaka blowing away the field in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking a winning time of 10:29.70 that was over 18-seconds better than the rest of the field. Stanley made it three-of-three by taking the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.95.
Na'inoa Loo captured the win in the 400-yard individual medley (4:42.53) before posting a victory in the 100-yard backstroke (59.63), a race that saw teammate
Luke Farag (1:01.33) place second overall. Loo secured his third win of the night in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:03.58.Â
Amgalan clocked his first individual collegiate win in the 100-yard freestyle, edging the field with a time of 49.17 before Tanaka won his third event of the night, netting a 14-second win in the 500-yard freestyle (4:57.22).
PLU put an exclamation point on the night in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Amgalan, Dang,
Ben Thompson, and Stanley winning the race in 1:30.27.Â

Pacific Lutheran continues its homestand tomorrow with a 1 p.m. dual meet against Lewis & Clark College.
