FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University swimming programs made a splash in the opening day of the 2023 Northwest Conference Championships on Thursday with the women sitting second and the men sitting sixth after four events at the King County Aquatic Center.

Annika Eisele,
Makenzie Chan-Orcutt,
Sidney Chan-Orcutt, and
Malia Wisham set the tone in the opening event, placing runner-up in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of one minute, 48.63 seconds.Â

The Lute women followed up that effort with a fourth place showing in the 800-yard freestyle relay with Wisham, Eisele,
Claire Cranch, and
Sidney Chan-Orcutt clocking a time of 8:04.71.Â

On the men's side,
Devin Stanley,
Na'inoa Loo,
Charlie Cutter, and
Ben Thompson logged a time of 1:37.96 in the 200-yard medley relay, placing seventh overall while Stanley, Loo,
Luke Farag, and
Tyler Tanaka closed out the night with a sixth place showing in the 800-yard freestyle relay in 7:15.83.

The PLU women sit tied for second overall in the team standings with Whitman College with 64 points, trailing Linfield University by 16 points. The Lute men sit sixth with 50 points, sitting four points shy of Willamette University in fifth.

The Lutes are back in the pool tomorrow at 9 a.m. for the preliminary races of day two of four.Â
