ON THE COURSE
Â
The Lutes were lead by sophomore
Sara Rhodes in round one with an 86. In round two, Rhodes remained consistent and fired an 87. Senior
Emily Fisher was close behind on day one with an 87 for the Lutes. Similar to Rhodes, she then fired an 86 in the second round. But leading the way overall on the weekend was freshman
Abby Matelski who went 89, 82, in her Lute debut. Matelski's 82 was the low-round of the weekend for the Lutes team.
Â
Senior
Ariana Warren was in the mix in the team scoring category on day one with an 87. Warren closed out her tournament shooting a 93 on Sunday. Rounding out the team lineup for the Lutes was freshman
Kathleen Pullin, who went 97, 89, for the weekend.
Â
Competing as an individual, freshman
Ashley Nguyen shot 98, 90, for the two rounds.
Â
FROM HEAD COACH COPP
Â
"Day 1 was a bit of a missed opportunity for us, however we still met our program expectations of having four scores under 90. Everyone was really excited for Ari, as she posted her second lowest round of her career with an 87.
Â
We got off to a great start on the front 9 in day 2. It was nice to see us find a rhythm and shake off the first day of the season nerves. We improved by five strokes on day 2, which was a goal of ours heading into the day.
Â
In her freshman debut,
Abby Matelski helped the lead the way for us. Her mental game was impressive as the tournament progressed and she was much more comfortable today. We expect a lot more low 80's or below rounds in the near future.
Â
Another highlight of round 2 was Kathleen's 89. She collected her first birdie of her college career in route to a countable score for us. We were all really excited about her sub 90 round
Â
All in all, our group this year is proving to be one that's willing to accept coaching and learn more ways to improve their processes."
