Men's Golf Closes Fall Season; Takes Seventh in Walla Walla

WALLA WALLA, Wash. --- The Pacific Lutheran University Men's Golf team finished in seventh at the Confluence Classic on Monday, completing the Fall season under first-year Head Coach Al Patterson.

Round one at Veterans Memorial Golf Course in Walla Walla found a knot of sophomore Soren Bostrom, sophomore Tanner Frinell, and junior Koen Solis, who all shot a three-over 75 in the opening round. Bostrom led the trio with three birdies, meanwhile Frinell shot a one-under 35 on the back nine.

Bostrom separated himself in the final round, shooting a one-over 73. Bostrom's final round saw four birdies, but could have been much better had it not been for two bogeys in the final two holes; the freshman still earned the top-20 finish in 16th place. Solis, who has led the Lutes through the first half of the season, was close behind Bostrom with a final-round 74 to take 19th-place, highlighted by five birdies in the final round and a one-under back nine. Frinell managed to make two birdies at Wine Valley, but his second round score did not count towards the team total after shooting a 78 and earning him a 34th-place finish.

Freshman Geo Pirrie rounded out the scoring for the team in round one with a 79, before also shooting the final team score in round two with a 77. Pirrie recovered well after opening up the final round with a seven on the par-four ninth hole. The Freshman finished in 42nd place.

Sophomore Marcus Otto's 80 in the opening round was not a part of the team's score, but he got back into stride at Wine Valley with a one-over 73. Otto's first round set him back, but he managed a 34th-place finish.

Head Coach Al Patterson brought along two individuals to the final tournament of the Fall season, sophomores Aiden Aoki and Luke Butler. Aoki, made his first appearance of his PLU career after transferring from California Lutheran ahead of this season. Aoki was in the mix after the first round, with a four-over 76 that saw 12 pars, but a final round 82 put him in 48th-place for the tournament. Butler was close behind Aoki, opening with a 78 at Veterans Memorial before an 82 at Wine Valley. Butler finished in 52nd-place.

PLU improved upon their opening-round 304, shooting a 297 in the final round to surpass George Fox in the team standings. The Lutes finished one behind Linfield and well ahead of George Fox and Pacific University. The Whitman Blues took home the team title on Monday.

The Lutes fall season comes to a close, after earning a third-place finish at the Orange & Black Tournament and a fourth place finish at the NWC Fall Classic. The Lutes were lead by Koen Solis and Marcus Otto carding top-tens individually.
