LAKEWOOD, Wash. — Three Lutes finished inside the top 25, guiding the Pacific Lutheran University men's golf squad to a fifth place showing on Sunday at the 2026 Northwest Conference Spring Classic at Oakbrook Golf & Country Club.
Koen Solis led the charge for the Lutes, tying for ninth overall with a 148. Solis shot a 73 on Saturday, making 11 pars and three birdies, before shooting a 75 on Sunday with nine pars and a pair of birdies.
Luke Butler tied for 17th, shooting a 151 (75-76) while
Marcus Otto snuck inside the Top 25, tying for 22nd with a 152 (75-77).
Tanner Frinell was 28th with a 153 (74-79) with
Soren Bostrom rounding out the Lute competitors with a two-round tally of 158 (82-76).
"I was excited after round one and being in third place, we grinded it out that first day. Typically we're a second day team but today that just didn't happen. We got off to a good start but just didn't keep our momentum through the back nine," said Head Coach Al Patterseon.
"The fact is that our conference is very competitive right now and I still believe that the Lutes are capable of winning any tournament. I believe in our men and I'm confident we will perform well at the NWC Championship later this month. Pumpkin Ridge is a championship course and our team performs better on championship style courses."
PLU placed fifth in the team standings in a tight race that saw just six strokes separate fourth from sixth. The Lutes carded a 601 for the event, shooting a 297 on Saturday and a 304 on Sunday. PLU finished three strokes ahead of both University of Puget Sound and Lewis & Clark College and four clear of Whitworth University. The Lutes were three strokes shy of fourth place and just six shots shy of third-place George Fox University (298-297). Linfield University won the team title, shooting a 579 (288-291) with the Wildcats' Douglas Bailey winning medalist honors with a three-under par 139 (71-68).
The Lutes are back in action on April 19, competing at the 2026 NWC Championships.
