FOREST GROVE, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team won its second straight dual meet in convincing fashion, overpowering Northwest Conference rival Pacific University 166-14 on Saturday afternoon.
"Today the Lutes shined with some new events and some familiar ones as we prepare for our mid-season invite at George Fox next weekend," said Head Coach
Andrew Lum.
"Despite our heavy training load, the Lutes looked sharp and were ready to perform."
The Lutes set the tone early with
Luke Farag,
Christian Georgi,
Na'inoa Loo, and Gus Hertz winning the 200-yard medley relay, edging out another PLU team by three seconds after touching the wall in one minute, 45 seconds.
Aidan Koshinsky won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.26, edging out teammate
Anthony James by three tenths of a second.
Christian Georgi headlined the 100-yard backstroke, winning in 1:00.18 with Hertz a close second in 1:00.66.
Reigning NWC Swimmer of the Week
Tyler Tanaka bested the field in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:00.68 while
Dakota Domingo won the 50-yard freestyle (22.67) and
Elijah Vickery won the 100-yard freestyle (52.71).
Hoskoo Amgalan won the 200-yard backstroke, outdueling James and finishing in 2:19.56.
Tanaka won his second event of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:13.75 with Georgi winning the 500-yard freestyle by a comfortable nine second margin in 5:14.69.
Loo claimed the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in 54.91 while Tanaka's third event win came in the 400-yard individual medley (4:27.55). The Lutes closed the meet with Aiden Koshinsky and
Dakota Domingo helped a mixed PLU team win the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:44.04.
The Lutes (2-2) are back in the pool next Saturday, returning to Oregon for day one of the Bruin Invitational in Newberg.
