TACOMA, Wash. — Eva Wirth won the hammer throw and was runner-up in the discus, headlining a strong effort from the Pacific Lutheran University women's track & field team at the two-day PLU Invitational.
"It was good to compete back at home and continue to build on last week's performances," said Head Coach

Eva Wirth won the hammer throw after uncorking a toss of 141' 5", blowing away the field and setting a personal best by almost two feet. Placing third was teammate
Sandra Valmonte with a toss of 121' 2" while
Katy Cook was fifth (109' 6"). Wirth additionally finished second in the discus, unleashing a throw of 122' 9"while
Virginia Arthur was fourth (114' 3").
"Eva had a great day with a solid discus competition followed up with a PR in the hammer."
Georjina Soliai was fourth in the shot put (38' 0 ¼") with Teuila Ilalio (37' 11 ½") fifth in the same event.
Kyleigh Archer finished third overall in the long jump, leaping a personal best 15 feet, 11 ¾ inches while
Abi Caprye was third in the high jump, matching an outdoor personal best with a clearance of 4' 11 ¾".
Cheyanne Hicks was fourth in the high jump, clearing 4' 7 ¾" with
Madison Downey placing fifth (4' 7 ¾"). Archer also won the triple jump with a personal best leap of 35' 3 1/4" with Downey second with a mark of 33' 9 1/4".
Lute alum Machaela (Graddy) Swartout, the 2018 NCAA Division III Champion in the javelin, showed she's still got it, winning the event on Saturday with a toss of 138' 11".
In Friday's track events,
Natalie Moran-Padilla was fourth overall In the 5,000-meters, looping the oval in 20 minutes, 52.79 seconds with
Zoey Holt fourth in the 1,500-meters in 5:18.91.
Damaris Ibrahim was fifth in the 800-meters, completing two loops of the track in a personal best time of 2:54.81.
"It will be good to compete at home again next week and to continue to improve."
The Lutes remain at home next weekend, hosting the PLU Open on Friday and Saturday. The throwing events will be contested on Friday afternoon with running and jumping events set for Saturday.
