AURORA, Ore. — Marcus Otto surged up the leaderboard on Sunday into a seventh place finish, helping the Pacific Lutheran University men's golf squad to a fifth place showing at the 2024 Northwest Conference Championships.
Otto shot a 78 during Saturday's opening round at Langdon Farms Golf Club before carding a 71 on Sunday, finishing with a 149 to tie for seventh overall.
Koen Solis improved by four strokes from day one to day two, shooting a 152 (78-74) to place 15th overall.
Hunter Olson finished 22nd overall with a 155 (80-75) while
Tanner Frinell was 25th with a 158 (76-82).
Luke Butler rounded out the Lute contingent, finishing 32nd with a 164 (83-81).
The Lutes finished fifth overall with a team tally of 613. PLU shot a 312 on Saturday before showing an 11-stroke improvement on Sunday with a 301. PLU owned a 20-stroke edge on crosstown rival University of Puget Sound (326-307) and was just eight strokes back of fourth place Whitworth University (310-295).
"The men's team battled through tough winds in both rounds and some rain for most of their first round. They really showed some grit," said Head Coach
Eddie Abellar.
"Marcus played well in round two shooting an even par round."
Whitman College took the team title, shooting a 582 (294-288). The Blues' Mason Remington secured medalist honors with a 138 (71-67).
