Lutes Shine in Field Events in Route to Second Place at Doris Heritage Invitational

SEATTLE, Wash. --- The Pacific Lutheran University Women's Track and Field team wrapped up a short one-day meet up in Seattle on Friday, taking second as a team and earning numerous Northwest Conference qualifiers.
 
In the Women's 400-meter relay, the squad featuring Cheyanne Hicks, Sarah Brandt, Madison Downey, and D'yhana Clemons, took third and earning six points for the team. Anna Iverson led the Lutes in the 5000-meter run, finishing behind only Division II athletes with a time of 18:25.03; good for sixth place.
 
In the field events, the Lutes shined bright. Eva Wirth continued to lead the Lutes in the Hammer Throw. Her toss of 44.52-meters was the best in the field by nearly five meters. Alessandra Valmonte, Katy Cook, Samayia White, Alicia Ellalynn Soliai, and Eryn Aston also placed in the event. Valmonte finished in second with a mark of 39.69-meters while Cook was fourth with 36.59-meters. White (fifth) tossed 35.12-meters, Soliai (sixth) held 27.27-meters, and Aston (seventh) threw the Hammer 26.10-meters.
 
Georjina Soliai led the team in the Shot Put, earning a fourth place finish at 12.08-meters. Her sister, Alicia-Ellalynn finished just behind her with a toss of 11.99-meters. Teulia Ilalio finished with a throw of 11.93-meters; good for sixth place. Cook took her skills to the Javelin Throw, making her second podium of the day with a second place finish on a 32.90-meter toss. Senior Kristine Nguyen was the Lutes best finisher in the Pole Vault with a leap of 3.10-meters, tying for third place behind a pair of Division II competitors.
 
The Discus earned the Lutes team a boatload of team points on Friday, as Carole Ramos held the team best throw of 35.25-meters. Virginia Arthur finished behind Ramos in fourth place with a mark of 35.23-meters. Alicia-Ellalynn Soliai added a 34.35-meter discus toss to her impressive resume at the meet. Wirth rounded out the scoring for the Lutes on Friday with a sixth place finish on a 34.24-meter throw.
 
"Our distance crew had a great day, Anna was a standout in that group." Said Head Coach Trey Henderson after Fridays meet.
 
The Lutes will prepare to head to Portland, Ore. next weekend to continue to earn NWC marks ahead of the conference championships on April 19th and 20th.
