TACOMA, Wash. —Â
Tyler Tanaka accounted for three of the Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team's six victories on Saturday afternoon, powering the Lutes to a 104-80 dual meet win over Northwest Conference rival George Fox University.
"We love racing George Fox because they bring the heat, energy, and great competitive camaraderie! We couldn't have written a better script to honor our seniors today," said Head Coach
Andrew Lum.
"The races were close, the tension was in the air, and both teams stepped up big time. This was a watershed meet for our team for the remainder of the season."
Tanaka's trifecta were all individual wins, securing the top spot on the podium in the 200-yard individual medley, the 500-yard freestyle, and the 200-yard breaststroke. The Anahola, Hawaii native began win a decisive win in the 200-yard individual medley, winning by over six seconds in two minutes, 2.89 seconds. Teammate
Christian Georgi secured a runner-up finish in the same race, clocking a 2:09.33. Tanaka was back at it in the 500-yard freestyle, logging another comfortable win after stopping the clock in 5:07.83. His final win was another 1-2 finish for the Lutes, prevailing in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:17.56 with
Dakota Domingo second in 2:23.34.Â
Seniors
Devin Stanley and
Na'inoa Loo partnered with
Dylan Dang and
Dakota Domingo to win the 400-yard medley relay to begin the meet, touching the wall in 3:42.32. Domingo would win a second event in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing the down and back sprint in 22.16.Â
PLU capped off the meet with another relay win as Dang,
Anthony James, Loo, and Stanley won the 400-yard freestyle in 3:25.16, edging the PLU B relay team.Â
Netting runner-up finishes included Gus Hertz in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.95), Dang in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.20), James in the 100-yard freestyle (51.01), and Georgi in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.89).Â
Saturday's meet was senior day with the Lutes honoring its three seniors—
Luke Farag,
Na'inoa Loo, and
Devin Stanley— in a post meet ceremony.Â

PLU returns to the pool on Friday, hosting College of Idaho and Southwestern Oregon Community College in the final home meet of the 2024-2025 season.Â
