HILLSBORO, Ore. — Liv Olson provided the offense and Abby Winkler was a brick wall defensively as the eight-time defending Northwest Conference Pacific Lutheran University women's soccer team swept the NWC's Player of the Week Awards on Monday.
Liv Olson was instant offense for the Lutes over the weekend. The Spokane, Washington native scored twice in the Lutes' 2-1 victory over Whitman College on Saturday, striking in the third and 70th minutes. Olson was back at it on Sunday, scoring in the 77th minute to vanquish Whitworth University 1-0. Olson leads the NWC in scoring with eight goals and has scored the game winner in each of the last three games for the conference leading Lutes (6-2-4, 6-0-2 NWC).
Abby Winkler wins Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this year after making 11 saves in the two road wins. The Portland native made eight saves in Saturday's win over Whitman while earning the shutout and making three more saves against Whitworth on Sunday.
Olson is the third different Lute to win NWC Player of the Week this fall, following in the footsteps of Kiana Gutierrez (offensive) on Sept. 22 and Abby Winkler (defensive) on Sept. 8.
Pacific Lutheran is back on the pitch on Saturday, facing Lewis & Clark College in Portland. Kickoff is set for noon.
