TACOMA, Wash.— Kei Nishikawa,
Julia Lorenzo, Zara Vera Doge, and Karina Yevstifieiva secured the 128-112 victory over the Willamette University Bearcats on Friday night in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:52.49.
"Magnetic and infectious!," Head Coach
Andrew Lum mentioned. "Those two words easily describe the deck presence, engagement and energy that the Lutes brought tonight for a hard fought victory over the Bearcats. Their belief in each other and willingness to throw down when it mattered the most really shined through in the last 400 freestyle relay with the men and women. Our backs were against the wall and this team stepped up to the plate and hit a home run. We look forward to hosting the Linfield Wildcats. We are excited to bring the heat tomorrow!"
The Pacific Lutheran University woman's swimming team started the meet slower than they would like dropping the first two events to the Bearcats. Lorenson would pick things up in the 100 yard backstroke winning with time of 1:06.64. Yevstifieieva continued the momentum winning the 100 yard breaststroke with a 1:15.65. Bearcats would go on another run of three straight events until
Lola Chargualaf won the 100 yard freestyle with a 59.17.
Harper Canessa also put up a strong performance in the 200 yard breaststroke finishing in first (2:34.09). Lutes kept forward momentum as Nishikawa,
Emma Gassman, and
Riley Maher all won their next events in the 500 free, 100 butterfly and 200 IM respectively.
Lutes would need the final relay to put away the Bearcats and they didn't disappoint winning the final event of the night by over five seconds.
Women's swimming will be back in action tomorrow November 15th at 11 AM against the Linfield University Wildcats.
