NEWBERG, Ore. — The Pacific Lutheran University men's swimming team wrapped up the fall semester's racing slate on Sunday, placing runner-up at the two-day Bruin Invitational.
The Lutes finished with one event champion and five runner-up finishes, scoring 787.5 points in the team standings to finish second among the five team field. PLU's point total was 220.5 points ahead of host and Northwest Conference rival George Fox University (567 points) while also placing ahead of league rivals Willamette University (544 points) and Pacific University (125 points). Southwestern Oregon Community College won the team title with a score of 1,320.5.
Vyron Domingo captured the Lutes' lone event win of the weekend, topping the field in the 200-yard backstroke on Saturday, touching the wall in one minute, 52.37 seconds. His winning effort shattering a school record that has stood since 2015, besting Cody Hartman's time of 1:52.58. Teammate
Christian Georgi was third overall in the same event, stopping the clock in 2:02.74 while also placing third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:08.51).
Anthony James was runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle in 47.66 while Domingo was third in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:00.44. The Lutes bookended Saturday with second place showings in the relays, turning in a time of 1:27.38 in the 200-yard freestyle relay and sporting a time of 3:31.67 in the 400-yard medley relay to finish off the day.
Sunday saw Domingo place runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke in 52.77 with
Dylan Dang taking second billing in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing up in 2:03.49.
Anthony James was third in the 50-yard freestyle (21.91) while the 200-yard medley relay team (1:35.51) and the 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:15.64) both logged third place showings.
The Lutes take an extended break and will resume the season on Jan. 9 with a dual with host University of Puget Sound and SW Oregon CC.
