TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University women's swimming team won 10 of the 14 events contested on Saturday at the PLU Pool, overwhelming Northwest Conference rival Lewis & Clark College 162-98.
"We're in a tough training block eight now, the hardest in my four years here. "It took a lot of grit and borderline stubbornness from the Lutes to earn the dual win today against a quality Lewis & Clark squad," said Head Coach

Harper Canessa,
Riley Maher, and
Karina Yevstifieieva set the tone in the first race of the day, winning the 400-yard medley relay by an impressive 17 seconds, touching the wall in four minutes, 13.75 seconds.Â
The Lutes (2-0) claimed the top two spots in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Scout Hawkins won top honors in 11:52.22 with
Ellie Cutting runner-up in 12:18.62.Â

Gassman won the 50-yard backstroke in 29.88 while Canessa and Hawkins went 1-2 in the 50-yard breaststroke. Canessa posted a winning effort of 32.84 with Hawkins boasting a time of 34.29.

Kei Nishikawa and
Riley Maher claimed the top two positions in the 200-yard butterfly. Nishikawa had a winning time of 2:17.97 with Maher finishing in 2:23.16. Nishikawa later won the 500-yard freestyle, winning by over five seconds in 5:36.72.Â

Yevstifieieva won the 100-yard freestyle in 57.93 while PLU claimed the top three spots in the 200-yard breaststroke with Hawkins leading the way with a winning time of 2:40.07.
Zara Vera Dodge was second (2:48.75) with
Keira Iwamoto third (2:49.46).Â

Maher won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:19.15 with Canessa runner-up in 2:20.66 while Nishikawa, Yevstifieieva,
Julia Lorenzo, and Gassman winning the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:50.72.

The Lutes are back in the pool on Friday, hosting NWC rival Willamette University at 6 p.m.
