TACOMA, Wash. — The Pacific Lutheran University men's track & field squad got an early jump on the outdoor season on Saturday, winning a pair of events and finishing fourth in the team standings at the Ed Boitano Invitational hosted by crosstown rival University of Puget Sound.
"It was a solid first outdoor meet. It was great weather and good competition to start the season," said Head Coach
Trey Henderson.
"The weekend started great with Micah setting a big PR in the hammer and Ryan running strong in the 10K. It carried over into today with the team competing well with PR's and conference qualifying marks."
Grady Lemma blazed to a victory in the 110-meter hurdles, stopping the clock in 14.95 seconds while placing second overall and first among Division III competitors in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.76. The speedster  additionally teamed up with
Kaimana Satterfield,
Steele Swinton, and
Nathan Atkinson to finish second overall in the 4x100-meter relay, crossing the finish in 43.59.
Seth Kramer took top honors in the long jump, leaping 22 feet, four 1/4 inches, while
Connor Meade was runner-up in the triple jump with a mark of 41' 7" with
Cooper Claxton fourth in the same event with a jump of 38' 9".Â
"Seth had a great start to his season in the long jump and each of our event groups had solid outings."
Ryan Stracke was the top finisher D3 in the 10,000-meters, an event that was contest on Friday evening. The senior circled the track in 31:07.56, finishing third overall while
Micah Ragaza-Bourassa had a big throw during Friday's hammer throw competition, landing fourth overall with a heave of 155' 0".Â
Kai Sorensen was fifth in the 1,500-meters in 4:01.99 while
Steele Swinton was eighth overall in the 100-meter dash, charging down the straightaway in 11.30.Â
George Sonko (discus — 141' 8") and
Darius Chaffin (javelin — 172' 5") finished fifth in their respective events while
Aidan Donnelly (13' 6 1/4") and
Blake Leahy (12' 6 1/4") finished sixth and eighth respectively, in the pole vault.Â
PLU racked up 77 points in the team standings, securing fourth overall and finishing 17-points behind host Puget Sound. Division II Western Washington University was the top team, scoring 182.50 points with Northwest Conference rival Whitworth University second with 151.5 points.Â
"There's a lot more potential in the team and I'm excited to see them keep pushing towards that potential."
The Lutes are back in action next Saturday, hosting the PLU Open.Â
