LAKEWOOD, Wash.— The Pacific Lutheran University men's golf team garners the Washington Cup crown by two strokes on Sunday Afternoon.
PLU traveled to Oakbrook Golf Club to compete against Whitman College, Whitworth University and University of Puget Sounds in a single-day tournament to prepare for Northwest Conference Spring Classic, which will be played on the same course. Lutes claimed first place (+21) by two strokes as the Blues, Pirates, and Loggers all tied for second.
"I am super happy for the boys!," Head Coach Al Patterson commented. " This should give us some confidence going into Willamette next week. This is also nice to perform well at Oakbrook because Puget Sound is hosting the NWC Spring Classic late this spring."
Lutes entered in five as a team and three individuals with only thw top four of five scores counting for team scores. Lutes got things rolling with several birdies on hole one from
Luke Butler,
Soren Bostrom, and
Geo Pirrie. The Lutes would finish with 12 birdies as a combined team.
Butler led the way for PLU finishing T-15 shooting a 75 (+4) and finishing with a team-high three birdies. Koen Sollis matched that effort finishing T-5 with a 75 (+4). Solis had the lone eagle on the day on hole nine.
Marcus Otto shot a 77 (+6),which was good for 12th. Bostrom just behind Otto finished with 78 (+7) and two birdies. Tanner Frinnell would round out the team performers finishing 25th with an 82 (+11).
On the individual side, Pirrie led the charge shooting a 76 (+5) finishing 9th with two birdies on the round.
Grant Raubenolt shot an 83 (+12) which was good for 27th overall. Tyler Maad rounded out the individuals finishing 33rd with a final round of 91(+20).
Lutes will be back in action on Saturday, March 14th as they head to Salem, Oregon to compete at the Willamette Valley Cup hosted by Willamette University.
