The PLU women's team has not been defeated in dual action since it lost to Whitman College way back on January 11, 2019, a span of 750 days.
"Our women swam great," said PLU Head Coach
Matt Sellman. "They really surprised with some of their swims. As always, they were ready to go and fired up to swim a tough opponent, and made what we anticipated to be a very close meet into a comfortable win. We had great energy on deck and rose to the occasion."
The home Pirates started out the dual strong with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay, but the Lutes gained strength as the matchup progressed and were led by a trio of freshmen.
Malia Wisham picked up three victories on Saturday. She won the 200 freestyle (1:55.57) and was victorious later in the meet as she finished over five seconds faster than the next closest swimmer in the 500 free (5:12.00). The Duvall native put an exclamation mark on the day, as she won the final individual event of the day, the 200 individual medley in 2:12.51.
Fellow freshman
Annika Eisele also topped the podium in the 100 backstroke (1:00.56), finishing ahead of senior teammate
Kiyomi Kishaba. That duo also went 1-2 in the 200 back with Eisele again finishing first (2:12.12). Eisele also snagged a runner-up finish in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:16.99.
After posting two event wins last Saturday against the University of Puget Sound,
Jessica Ordaz continued her winning ways with victories in the 100 (58.29) and 200 butterfly (2:09.03).
Ordaz and Wisham were joined by veterans
Bailey Hamilton and
Sidney Chan-Orcutt to earn the win in the 400 free relay (3:39.56).
