RESULTS

TACOMA, Wash. – The Pacific Lutheran women's swim team took home an event win Saturday at the Northwest Conference Relays hosted by Puget Sound.

The Lutes grabbed victory in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2 minutes, 13.97 seconds. Reina Kim, Claire Cranch, Makenzie Chan-Orcutt and Malia Wisham swam the Lutes to victory in the event, which featured teams throughout the conference and is considered the preseason before duals begin.

"There was high focus, competitive drive and great respect for our opponents from the Lutes," PLU coach Andrew Lum said. "They did a phenomenal job continuing the energy train that we started Friday at the Sprint Meet."

The men earned a fourth-place finish in the 200 butterfly, as Ben Thompson, Devin Stanley, Na'inoa Loo and Charlie Cutter combined to finish the event in 1:40.15. Linfield won the event in 1:36.11.

Team scores were not provided.

The women took second in the 200 butterfly in 1:54.9 with Cranch, Jersey Razzano, Sidney Chan-Orcutt and Annika Eisele swimming that race.

The Lutes also took third in the 200 backstroke in 1:58.68, with Allie Burke, Cranch, Eisele and Maya Lovre making up the squad.

"We are proud of them for living our team motto of 'better than yesterday,'" Lum said. "They have set the tone for the 2022-23 season and we look forward to conference competition starting with Whitworth and Whitman next week."

The Lutes head to Eastern Washington for duals at Whitworth at 6 p.m. Friday and at Whitman at 11 a.m. Saturday.
