SPOKANE, Wash. – Competing as a full squad for the first time this winter, the Pacific Lutheran University men's track and field throwers record three top ten finishes in a field of 20 teams at the Whitworth University Invitational.

"It was an awesome opportunity to compete at such a great meet in a brand new, first-class facility," said PLU Head Coach Adam Frye.  "We had some exciting performances, but more than anything it was great training and learning that will help us continue to grow and improve."


Wyatt Tayon led the charge with a fourth-place finish in the shot put.  Tayon heaved the shot 46'9", while teammate Masum Real was just three inches behind him in sixth.  Larson Fairbairn took seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 47' 3". 
 
Freshman Nathan Atkinson cleared 5'11 ¼" to place eighth in the high jump. 
 
On the track, Grady Lemma qualified fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with an 8.85, but took eighth in the finals after recording a 10.13.  Lemma also shined in the 4x400-meter relay as he led off for the seventh-place Lutes.  Lemma teamed with Logan Werner, Jai Alapai and Keola Sanchez to record a 3:35.39. 
 
"Our throwers has a big day," said Frye.  "Wyatt and Masum making finals in the shot and Larson in the weight throw was outstanding. Grady and Keola had great days and led us to an exciting heat win the 4x4 to cap the day."
 
PLU will take next weekend off before heading to the Seattle Pacific University Final Qualifier on February 26.
